\u201cOranga Tamariki can confirm we are responding to an incident at Korowai Manaaki, one of our Auckland youth justice residences,\u201d the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cA number of young people have gained access to the roof within the facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are working with police to resolve this matter and can confirm there are no concerns for public safety. The young people are still within the confines of the facility.\u201d<\/p>\n

In July 2023, several young people refused to leave the same roof until Oranga Tamariki met several demands.<\/p>\n

OT deputy chief executive Tusha Penny told the AM Show the situation had been resolved when food was brought in for the group after they came down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did give them takeaways. So they got KFC and McDonald\u2019s to come down. But like I said, we got them down safely after that period of time,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The group had remained on the roof for a total of 30 hours in a tense standoff with authorities.<\/p>\n
