But consultation has to occur, and that will happen over the next two weeks.”

He had met with the chief executive of Talley’s and the company was taking a responsible approach towards employees who might be affected, and was conscious of the impact of job losses on Westport and the wider area, Russell said.

“If people can take advantage of offers from within the Talley’s group, that is really really a wonderful thing, but if people leave the Buller district that is not good for us,” Russell said.

“We will continue to struggle on as Buller always does.”

Talley’s will consult with staff over the next two weeks.

Sign up for Ngā Pitopito Kōrero, a daily newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.

Photo: Google Maps Talley’s is considering closing its Westport fish processing factory and has started consulting with staff.…

[3
48,47,42,43,49,46,44,45,40,38,41,39
0":"post-372984","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-headlines","8":"tag-audio","9":"tag-current-affairs","10":"tag-headlines","11":"tag-news","12":"tag-podcasts","13":"tag-public-radio","14":"tag-radio-new-zealand","15":"tag-rnz","16":"tag-top-news","17":"tag-top-stories","18":"tag-topnews","19":"tag-topstories
["GET
