\n\tTurns out, there\u2019s more story to tell!<\/p>\n
\n\tIce Cube<\/a> and Kevin Hart<\/a> may dust off their bickering buddy act now that \u201cRide Along 3<\/a>\u201d is once again in early development at Universal. Tim Story, the director of the two previous installments in the cop comedy franchise, and Will Packer, the producer, are also back for more. Before you reserve your ticket, it\u2019s worth noting that all of these players have been trying to get another \u201cRide Along\u201d off the ground for nearly a decade<\/a> without success.<\/p>\n \n\tThat could change. The big news, which Variety has confirmed, is that Daniel Gold, the writer of the Netflix\/CBC comedy series\u00a0\u201cWorkin\u2019 Moms,\u201d has been hired to write the screenplay.<\/p>\n \n\tIt makes sense that Universal, the studio behind the \u201cRide Along\u201d films, would want to revive the hugely successful series. \u201cRide Along\u201d grossed $155 million when it debuted in 2014, while \u201cRide Along 2\u201d earned $125 million when it hit theaters in 2016. And Hart and Cube clearly had chemistry. So what\u2019s behind the delay? The answer may be that big-screen comedies have fallen out of favor in recent years. Major studios have largely ceded that ground to Netflix and Prime Video, which have invested more heavily in the genre (that\u2019s why broad comedies from the likes of Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler and Hart now routinely debut on streaming).<\/p>\n \n\tFor those who may be hazy on the plot of the \u201cRide Along\u201d films, they follow a security guard who is desperate to prove himself to his girlfriend\u2019s police officer big brother.<\/p>\n \n\tStory and Hart are about to reunite on the upcoming Netflix comedy \u201c72 Hours.\u201d Packer produced \u201cYou, Me & Tuscany,\u201d a rom-com starring Halle Bailey\u00a0and\u00a0Reg\u00e9-Jean Page for Universal, which premiered this weekend. And Cube recently starred in \u201cWar of the Worlds,\u201d as well as played himself in last winter\u2019s \u201cAnaconda\u201d reboot.<\/p>\n \n\tUniversal declined to comment on this report. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Turns out, there\u2019s more story to tell!
