After about 20 minutes, the plane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/flight\/QLK1889\/history\/20250921\/2045Z\/YPDN\/YPDN\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rapidly descended more than 6,000m<\/a> in about six minutes, according to flight data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The plane was then diverted back to Darwin. Qantas said in a statement:<\/p>\n<p>The pilots received a pressurisation warning light shortly after take off on Monday morning and followed standard operating procedures.<\/p>\n<p>We understand this might have been an unsettling experience for our customers and want to thank them for their patience and understanding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The aircraft will be inspected by engineers before returning to service.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:?subject=Australia news live: AMA president says \u2018no studies\u2019 support Trump claim about paracetamol; PM remembers Zomi Frankcom in UN speech&amp;body=https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/live\/2025\/sep\/23\/australia-news-live-albanese-new-york-palestine-united-nations-donald-trump-mark-butler-paracetamol-pregnancy-ntwnfb?CMP=share_btn_url&amp;page=with%3Ablock-68d1c4338f080fb4fddc38fb#block-68d1c4338f080fb4fddc38fb\" type=\"button\" class=\"dcr-1mulgdf\">Share<\/a>AMA president says no studies show paracetamol use in pregnancy causes autism<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Danielle McMullen, the president of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), said this morning there are no studies showing paracetamol use in pregnancy causes autism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">McMullen spoke to RN Breakfast following US president Donald Trump\u2019s assertion that the popular painkiller was linked to autism \u2013 even though it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/2025\/sep\/22\/can-you-use-tylenol-acetaminophen-paracetamol-during-pregnancy-is-it-safe-explainer\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">widely considered a safe option <\/a>to treat pain and fever during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">McMullen said:<\/p>\n<p>There are no studies showing that paracetamol use in pregnancy causes autism. There have been some studies showing what we call an association between paracetamol use and autism in children, but there\u2019s also been really large studies showing that there\u2019s no association. And it\u2019s important to remember that association doesn\u2019t mean cause.<\/p>\n<p>It could be that there\u2019s a whole range of things that happened during pregnancies, and one of those was that the pregnant mother took paracetamol, but it also could be that she had a fever or there were genetic factors.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in autism, it\u2019s most likely that autism is linked with genetic factors as its primary driver, but we really don\u2019t know the full cause of autism.<\/p>\n<p>AMA president Dr Danielle McMullen. Albanese went on:<\/p>\n<p>In recognising Palestine, Australia recognises the legitimate and long held aspirations of the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n<p>That means more than a seat, a voice and a vote in the councils of the world. We must stop the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Ending the war must be our utmost priority.<\/p>\n<p>We must overcome hatred and fear. We must overcome suspicion. We must achieve the peace that is necessary for the human family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Prabowo says Indonesia is ready to play its part in the journey towards peace, including providing peace keeping forces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The president\u2019s speech ran overtime and the microphone was cut but he implored countries to act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cPeace now, peace immediately. Previously the company run by the club\u2019s chief executive, Sports Hydrant, was listed on the lobbyist register.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The club has rejected claims its games are anything other than a chance for politicians and staff to relax and exercise and insist all rules have been followed. But Ryan said it provided its corporate members a chance to build \u201cinfluence by stealth\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>To paraphrase Groucho Marx, I\u2019m not signing up for any parliamentary sports club which serves up gambling industry lobbying with its early morning basketball games. I\u2019m resigning from the club today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The club\u2019s registration has also drawn criticism from crossbench MPs Sophie Scamps, Allegra Spender, Kate Chaney, David Pocock and Helen Haines, who pointed out the prime minister\u2019s position as the club\u2019s chair.<\/p>\n<p>While Australians wait for the government to take serious action on gambling harm, the Australian Parliamentary Sports Club \u2013 chaired by the prime minister himself \u2013 is acting on behalf of clients that include the gambling industry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Last week, the club said it does not lobby on behalf of any of its corporate members.
