According to a epidemiological bulletin from the State Health Department Friday, Mato Grosso do Sul state has already registered 4,281 probable cases of chikungunya, with 2,102 confirmed, through April 4.<\/p>\n

The most serious finding in the report is the confirmation of 10 deaths from chikungunya in the municipalities of Dourados, Bonito, Jardim, and F\u00e1tima do Sul. Among the victims, five had some type of comorbidity. <\/p>\n

The report also indicates 43 confirmed cases of chikungunya in pregnant women.<\/p>\n

In the same bulletin, the State Health Department updated the dengue fever situation in the state. According to the bulletin, Mato Grosso do Sul has 2,793 probable cases, of which 454 have been confirmed. To date, there are no deaths registered or under investigation for the disease.<\/p>\n

Chikungunya epidemic risk: A call to action<\/a><\/p>\n

Over the past 14 days, the municipalities of Santa Rita do Pardo, Para\u00edso das \u00c1guas, Corumb\u00e1, Amambai, Bandeirantes, Guia Lopes da Laguna, Ang\u00e9lica, Eldorado, Itapor\u00e3, Miranda, Costa Rica, Sonora, F\u00e1tima do Sul, Lad\u00e1rio, Jardim, Caarap\u00f3, Rio Brilhante, Maracaju, Aquidauana, Sidrol\u00e2ndia, Tr\u00eas Lagoas, and Dourados have shown a low incidence of confirmed dengue cases.<\/p>\n

Lastly, 223,322 doses of the dengue vaccine have already been administered to the target population. In total, Mato Grosso do Sul received 241,030 doses from the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n

The vaccination schedule consists of two doses, with a three-month interval between them. Vaccination is recommended for children and adolescents between 10 and 14 years, 11 months and 29 days old, an age group that accounts for the highest number of hospitalizations due to dengue among people aged 6 to 16.<\/p>\n

The State Health Department emphasizes that the public should avoid self-medication. In case of dengue or chikungunya symptoms, the recommendation is to seek medical attention at a municipal health unit.<\/p>\n

Nationwide in Brazil, 24,318 total probable chikungunya cases, including 15 deaths\/. Another 14 deaths are under investigation.<\/p>\n
