\n Olivier Widmaier Picasso, grandson of the legendary Spanish artist, told CNN\u2019s Paula Newton that his grandfather created \u201cT\u00eate de Femme\u201d in the same studio where he painted his masterpiece \u201cGuernica.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n He said he believed the work is being undervalued. \u201cIt\u2019s worth much more than $1 million,\u201d Widmaier Picasso said, \u201cso it will be really a big prize.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Picassos have fetched staggering sums at auction in the past. \u201cLes Femmes d\u2019Alger (Version \u2018O\u2019)\u201d sold for more than $179 million in 2015.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Opera Gallery, which donated the painting, says Pablo Picasso was in Paris when he painted \u201cT\u00eate de Femme.\u201d World War II was raging across Europe and much of France was under German occupation.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cT\u00eate de Femme\u201d is about 15 inches tall and 10 inches wide. The woman\u2019s expression, painted in different shades of gray, is intentionally distorted in Picasso\u2019s signature Cubist style. The Opera Gallery says the gouache reflects a moment of introspection and concentrated studio work for the artist.\n <\/p>\n
\n Widmaier Picasso says that a friend of his came up with the \u201c1 Picasso for 100 euros\u201d initiative.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cShe thought it was a modern vision of charity by offering people the option to get a real artwork of my grandfather and to participate in humanitarian operations,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n
\n Widmaier Picasso believes his grandfather would support \u201c1 Picasso for 100 euros.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cMy grandfather was a pioneer in many ways,\u201d he said. \u201cI think that he was always very interested in participating in new things. I would say that today he would have been interested in video or maybe in artificial intelligence.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Widmaier Picasso says whoever wins \u201cT\u00eate de Femme\u201d is free to do whatever they would like with it. The winner of the first contest, for example, decided to display their prize in a museum.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cAnyone can do what they want,\u201d he said. \u201cThey can keep it in the living room, they can show it in an exhibition \u2014 or they can resell it.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Widmaier Picasso said his grandfather would agree with letting the winner decide, because that\u2019s how he operated.\n <\/p>\n
\n He said his grandmother, Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Walter, who was only 17 years old when Picasso began a romantic relationship with her, was showered with art. The artist was in his mid-forties at the time, married with a young son.\n <\/p>\n
\n Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Walter\u2019s features appeared in Picasso\u2019s work over the next decade. Widmaier Picasso says his grandfather repaid her for the years of inspiration.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cWhen my grandfather was giving artworks, it was forever,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was a decision \u2013 you do what you want with it. Pablo gave a lot of artworks to his lady, and she kept everything until she died.
