Game Recap: Giants v Rams<\/p>\n

Result: NBS Nelson Giants (85) are defeated by The Wheeler Motor Company Canterbury Rams (86)<\/p>\n

Rams survive a late push from the Giants.<\/p>\n

The last game of Rivalry Round brought the Canterbury Rams to Nelson to face their ex-teammate Tohi Smith-Milner. The centre would contribute 17 points against his former team, but it wouldn’t be enough. The Giants would take a 2 point lead at the end of the first while Canterbury would snatch that away by the 2nd quarter. Canterbury would build their lead only for the Giants to fight back and equal it in the closing minutes. Taylor Britt would steer the ship clear with a few timely buckets, but with next to no time left, two missed free throws from Britt game the Giants a chance they couldn’t capitalise on.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Long-time Nelson Giant Sam Dempster deserves a mention, as his 12 points and 10 rebounds proved to be pivotal in helping bring the Giants back to a tie game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Out of the gate the home team Giants showed why they’re the reigning champions. They defended well, keeping the Rams to only 7 points in the first while scoring 16 of their own. They would go on to take a 30-15 lead and looked prime to seal the game away. The second half would be an abysmal start for the Giants. Totaling only 2 points in the whole quarter and giving the Rams an opening. Despite the Rams outscoring the Giants 13-8, the brilliance of Inwood (19p) would carry the Giants through to a narrow 3 point victory with the final score of 40-37.<\/p>\n
