Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy<\/a> has been filmed giving it to second-rower Joe Chan in his side’s 38-14 loss at home to the Warriors before he hooked the forward in the second-half. Bellamy cut a bewildered figure after the Storm’s fourth NRL<\/a> loss in a row on Saturday night as he lamented his team’s defence with the Warriors running riot at AAMI Park.<\/p>\n

After conceding 50 to the Penrith Panthers last week<\/a>, many predicted Bellamy’s side to bounce back with authority. Except it was the Warriors who came out stronger absolutely battering the Storm in the contest.<\/p>\n

“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen them overpowered,” Michael Ennis said in Fox Sports commentary. And at half-time, second-rower Chan appeared to cop some stern words from Bellamy as the dressing room cameras showed an animated coach with his team down by four.<\/p>\n

Bellamy clearly wanted Chan to aim up in defence in the final 40 minutes. Unfortunately, Chan only lasted five minutes in the second-half before he was hooked in a telling move. He made 16 tackles and two misses in his 45 minutes on the field. This came with a number of errors.<\/p>\n

The Storm missed 32 tackles, five linebreaks and six tries with the Warriors too strong as they broke a 17-game losing streak at AAMI Park. Chanel Harris-Tavita was brutal in defence for the Warriors and added much needed steel to the side after Luke Metcalf’s injury.<\/p>\n

Bellamy was clearly unimpressed with his team’s defensive efforts and he let the media know after in his press conference. “It’s hugely disappointing,” Bellamy said. “We did a lot of work on our defence this week and we may as well have gone to the pub and had a couple of beers.”<\/p>\n

Bellamy added there could be changes on the horizon after their fourth straight defeat. “There’s a lot of things going wrong so we need to have a good, hard look at ourselves,” he said. “We’re all going to take responsibility, and if there’s people not doing their jobs properly well we need to make changes, that’s with staff as well.”<\/p>\n

Melbourne conceded seven penalties with lock Trent Loiero giving away three. Melbourne hasn’t lost four consecutive matches since 2022.<\/p>\n

Andrew Webster thrilled with the win after going down to the Wests Tigers and Sharks in the last two weeks. With the team missing a number of starts, Webster was thrilled with his team and is confident they can go on a run.<\/p>\n

“I think it could be a springboard,” Webster said after the emphatic victory. “We’ve got high standards, we want to win every week … so what it does for us, this win, will only tell in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

“But we should certainly leave here with confidence that when we play the game that we want to play, in the style we want to play, and turn up for each other like that and have your mates’ back, then we’re going to get what we want most often.”<\/p>\n
