Within days of Starfield<\/a>‘s much-anticipated launch on PS5, fans are complaining of “totally unsurprising<\/a>” crashes<\/a>, freezes<\/a>, and save issues<\/a>, with some calling the game “unplayable<\/a>” in its current state.<\/p>\n

Players have reported a number of bugs during Starfield’s PS5 debut weekend, with many chasing refunds<\/a> for progression-breaking problems that seem to be making saving<\/a> and exploration<\/a> almost impossible.<\/p>\n

On a subreddit thread<\/a> entitled “Base PS5 crashing getting out of hand, its unplayable” with dozens and dozens of comments, one player reported that they’d “tried all proposed fixes and saved uninstall and reinstall for last, now the game won’t even load, this is beyond ridiculous,” while another wrote<\/a>: “I can’t even land on any planets or try do anything other sit my ship or game will crash”.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t seem to matter whether players are using a vanilla PS5 or the Pro model, as issues plague both consoles, and it’s unclear whether there’s a difference in experience between physical disc and digital versions. Some have suggested disabling auto-save<\/a>, but that doesn’t seem to alleviate the problems for everyone.<\/p>\n

“Yeah I’ve shelved it,” explained<\/a> one player. “I’ve called their tech support line and left a message and submitted a ticket. I have done every single troubleshooting step and it’s the only game I own that hard freezes like this constantly. Feel seriously ripped off. I want to play it because I like what I actually did get to play but this is actually bs.”<\/p>\n

Another lamented<\/a>: “I’ve tried all proposed fixes and saved uninstall and reinstall for last, now the game won’t even load, this is beyond ridiculous.”<\/p>\n

Bethesda has seemingly not yet publicly commented on the issue, but the day one patch<\/a> doesn’t seem to have helped. Eurogamer has reached out to Bethesda for comment.<\/p>\n
