{"id":376372,"date":"2026-04-12T20:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T20:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/376372\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T20:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T20:29:09","slug":"masters-2026-live-updates-justin-rose-leads-in-final-round-with-rory-mcilroy-and-cameron-young-in-mix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/376372\/","title":{"rendered":"Masters 2026 live updates: Justin Rose leads in final round with Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young in mix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Live updates of the final round of the US Masters at Augusta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8211; Defending champion Rory McIlroy started the day in a share of the lead with Cameron Young at -11 but both have struggled on first nine. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8211; Justin Rose, who lost playoff last year, takes a two-shot lead into the second nine after three consecutive birdies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">&#8211; World No 1 Scottie Scheffler remains in the hunt, at -9 through 10 holes.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<a class=\"ad__link\" data-test-ui=\"ad__link\" href=\"https:\/\/nzme.co.nz\/advertise\/\" data-ad-env=\"both\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advertise with NZME.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Rory McIlroy charged back late after squandering a six-stroke edge to share the 54-hole lead with Cameron Young at the Masters today after a wild third round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A chaotic afternoon at Augusta National saw both men plunk key shots into water on the back nine but finish level atop the leaderboard on 11-under 205 through 54 holes, one stroke ahead of American Sam Burns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">McIlroy carded a one-over-par 73 while Young roared into contention with a scintillating seven-under-par 65.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI didn\u2019t have it today,\u201d McIlroy said. \u201cI scrambled a lot on the front nine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Second-ranked McIlroy birdied the 14th and 15th holes to grab the lead but found trees off the 17th tee on the way to a bogey and his one-over round.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI still have a great chance,\u201d McIlroy said. \u201cI\u2019m in the final group. That\u2019s where I want to be. I wish I had a little more cushion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI need to be better tomorrow. He overcame a watery bogey at 15 by curling in a 27-foot birdie putt at the par-three 16th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">As a result, the 28-year-old American has a prime chance for his first major title.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThere certainly is no lead that\u2019s safe out here but Rory loves it here and no one would be surprised if he had shot 65,\u201d Young said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIt\u2019s just one of those times that if he doesn\u2019t, we have to take advantage and I got myself here today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Irishman Shane Lowry aced the 173m par-three sixth hole with a 7-iron on his way to a 68 that left him in fourth on 207, one stroke ahead of Australian Jason Day and England\u2019s Justin Rose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Lowry, the 2019 British Open winner, became the first Masters player with multiple holes-in-one, having aced the 16th in the final round in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<a class=\"ad__link\" data-test-ui=\"ad__link\" href=\"https:\/\/nzme.co.nz\/advertise\/\" data-ad-env=\"both\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advertise with NZME.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThat\u2019s wild,\u201d Lowry said. \u201cYou don\u2019t ever expect to make a hole-in-one. I just couldn\u2019t believe it. You\u2019re out there and you\u2019re in the hunt at the Masters and you\u2019re making hole-in-one. It\u2019s pretty cool.
