Lena Dunham is finally ready to talk about the biggest rumor that surrounded her breakup with Jack Antonoff<\/a>. The relationship, which lasted from 2012 to the end of 2017, features prominently in Dunham\u2019s new memoir Famesick. In it, Dunham reveals that Antonoff\u2019s \u201ccloseness\u201d with an unnamed \u201cteen pop star\u201d started to affect her towards the end of the relationship.<\/p>\n

Though Dunham doesn\u2019t identify the singer, it\u2019s widely believed to be Lorde<\/a>, whom Antonoff had worked closely with throughout 2016 and 2017<\/a> as a writer and producer on her album Melodrama. At that time, there was a prominent internet theory that Antonoff and Lorde were more than just collaborators<\/a>, although that has never been confirmed.<\/p>\n

In Famesick, Dunham recalled FaceTiming Antonoff when she was still dating him, and noticing that \u201che was ensconced with a teen pop star I was too oblivious to be jealous of.\u201d After that, she started noticing their interactions more, writing he he was often \u201clocked in a room with a teen pop star whose needs seemed as massive and complex as my own, and who called me \u2018Aunt Lena\u2019 when I hobbled into the kitchen with my walker to grab another bottle of green tea.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunham also walked in on the singer \u201csprawled across our sectional couch, weeping into Jack’s lap as he told her that \u2018your teens are for experimenting\u2019 in a tone so comforting, it almost brought tears to my eyes.\u201d The author noted: \u201cIt had been so long since he’d spoken to me with that kind of expansive generosity.\u201d<\/p>\n

After these instances, Dunham wrote that she brought up her concerns to Antonoff, telling him she felt \u201clike a ghost\u201d and offered: \u201cPerhaps their closeness was striking an odd note, that she wanted something from him that he couldn’t give.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, Antonoff deduced that Dunham was \u201cjust mad because she doesn’t want to be your friend.\u201d And now, Dunham can admit that was an issue: \u201cHe was right.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until a now-infamous PowerPoint presentation hit the internet<\/a> in early 2018, after Dunham and Antonoff\u2019s breakup, that she began second-guessing the nature of her ex\u2019s relationship with the pop star.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn’t paying attention, but the Internet sure was, and they made some pretty amazing PowerPoints on the issue,\u201d Dunham wrote. \u201cSo convincing they had me rethinking events that I myself had been present for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunham admitted she DMed \u201cthe PowerPoint maker\u201d at one point, but the exchange wasn\u2019t fruitful.<\/p>\n
