A tree had become known to many locals as \u201cTyler\u2019s tree\u201d and was a memorial spot decorated with lights, flowers, sentimental toys and photos. Photo \/ Supplied<\/p>\n
Porter said even some Christmas lights earlier placed by a member of the community, so Tyler wouldn\u2019t miss out on Christmas, were missing. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe lights that were on the tree weren\u2019t even taken out properly, they\u2019ve been ripped out,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Porter said the incident felt very \u201cdeliberate\u201d, and the community was left devastated because it was a meaningful site for many people facing loss. <\/p>\n
\u201cHad this person, whoever it may be, come and just talk to me and said, \u2018hey, we\u2019ve got concerns\u2019, I would have come to a resolution … But just to go and do this and take items that are very personal, it\u2019s not okay,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Porter said she was initially trying to find a rational explanation for what happened, such as someone removing the items to protect them during Cyclone Vaianu on the weekend. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf someone had, why would they not reach out to me and say, \u2018hey, I\u2019ve removed the items, but I\u2019ll put them back,\u2019\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Auckland Council\u2019s area operations manager for Hibiscus, Bays and Upper Harbour, Sandra May, said she could confirm that no items have been removed by Auckland Council staff or contractors. <\/p>\n

Porter said this incident highlighted how important the site was to the community, and she hoped whoever did this would get a guilty conscience and return the items. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019ve seen anything, heard anything or have any information at all, please reach out, privately if you prefer,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
Following her son\u2019s \u201cheartbreaking accident\u201d, Porter started a Facebook blog called What Happens After to share her son\u2019s story and show people the raw side of what happens when you lose a child. <\/p>\n
In a tribute <\/a>to her son last year, Porter said a part of her would be forever missing. <\/p>\n\u201cPlease know, my baby, I love you more than anything. I just wish I could have wrapped my arms around you one more time.<\/p>\n
