\u201c[We\u2019re] trying to see whether there is anything on the road when it\u2019s not wet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked if it was a head-on collision, the police officer said: \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re trying to ascertain. Because there\u2019s no witnesses. By the time we got here, everything had been moved. We\u2019re not too sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mehikiterangi, a witness who lives nearby, said she heard a \u201cloud noise\u201d when the accident happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe didn\u2019t see anything. All we heard was the crash,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy daughters were actually in the truck [in the driveway] during that time. I thought it was something out here because my girls were in the truck, so I ran straight there.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy partner, he goes, \u2018no, that was a crash\u2019 \u2026 our neighbour had just come out to grab him and said, \u2018I need your help\u2019. And then they went off to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said Tirimoana Rd is a narrow street and \u201cpeople speed\u201d, which has caused other accidents in the past.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s dangerous \u2026 we\u2019ve only been living in this house for about 8-9 months now and the moment we moved in, we noticed how the cars would drive down the street and how the cars are parked.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur neighbour said to us that same night, \u2018this isn\u2019t the first time it\u2019s happened. It always happens\u2019. It\u2019s just stupid because why hasn\u2019t the council done anything about it?<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s literally a school around the corner \u2026 they need speed bumps or something.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said her partner, who helped out in the aftermath of the crash before emergency services arrived, was traumatised by the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be honest, I\u2019m a little bit shaken up. My partner, he had to have the day off yesterday because he saw it all, you know, and it was quite traumatising for him.<\/p>\n
