Since its founding in 1923, Time magazine has been crowning the world\u2019s pioneers and power brokers. The pub\u2019s annual list of most influential people is more than 30 years old. And today, we get the 2026 edition.<\/p>\n
Though \u201cinfluential,\u201d is a deliberately slippery metric, the TIME100 list<\/a> aims to recognize needle-movers. Editors debate entries all year long<\/a>, using only cultural sway as rubric. As a result, there are actors, doctors, CEOs, chefs, entrepreneurs, activists, athletes, and war criminals represented on the list. There are also three novelists, because literary culture isn\u2019t dead. Here\u2019s who made the cut:<\/p>\n Tayari Jones<\/p>\n Jones was cited by the author and academic Imani Perry for her \u201csensitive coming-of-age stories [that] bloom into rich landscapes of Black women\u2019s interior lives.\u201d A bard of Atlanta working within multiple storytelling traditions<\/a>, Jones also got flowers for nurturing peers in the profession.<\/p>\n Her latest novel, Kin<\/a>, is out now.<\/p>\n Frieda McFadden<\/p>\n The mysterious<\/a> Frieda McFadden is the mind behind several recent and \u201cterrifying\u201d psychological page\u202fturners. E.L. James praised<\/a> the bestselling author\u2014who moonlights as a physician and writes under a nom de plume\u2014for bringing horror back into the house.<\/p>\n Yiyun Li<\/p>\n The author of Dear Friend, from My Life I Write to You in Your Life<\/a> and other titles is known for her deep, poetic engagement with grief.
