PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — The Portland Museum of Art has submitted a plan to the city to create a temporary open-air space at the site of the old children’s museum.<\/p>\n
After a lengthy legal battle, the museum was given the green light by a judge last year to demolish the building at 142 Free Street as part of its expansion process.<\/p>\n
The museum now wants that space to be turned into a temporary 4,200 square-foot open-air space for museum events.<\/p>\n
It’s not clear how long that would be in place before the next phase of construction begins.<\/p>\n
The museum has big plans for the block.<\/p>\n
