Milford Road (SH94)<br \/>&#8211; Crown Range Road<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udfe1\ud83d\udca8Strong Wind Watches have been issued for coastal lower South Island for Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>West to southwest winds\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VezR0GMCZY\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/VezR0GMCZY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MetService NZ (@MetService) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MetService\/status\/2044189883250683909?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 14, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Wellington is expected to remain largely sunny today, reaching a high of 17C, but there will be a \u201cnoticeable northerly breeze\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Rain is also forecast to arrive overnight and carry into Saturday and possibly Sunday, Ferris said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Christchurch is forecast to reach a high of 19C today with the odd early morning shower and possible heavy showers about the Banks Peninsula this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">A front moving up from the southwest will bring strong winds from the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">A little rain may arrive on Friday as another system moves up the West Coast, but Ferris said totals are expected to be light and Christchurch could see the best weather of the main centres this weekend. <\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u26a0\ufe0f Strong winds will affect the lower South Island overnight through early Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udf43 Gusts approaching or even exceeding 100 km\/h will impact places such as Dunedin, Invercargill, and Stewart Island.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udc4d However, winds will ease as Thursday afternoon progresses. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lmznuiLtre\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/lmznuiLtre<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NIWA Weather (@NiwaWeather) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NiwaWeather\/status\/2044314719549567122?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 15, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Further south, strong winds and wintry conditions are expected to sweep across parts of the lower South Island today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">MetService has issued a strong wind watch for coastal Southland, Stewart Island and coastal Otago south of Oamaru until 2pm, with gale-force west to southwest winds forecast to spread northwards before easing later in the day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Ferris said the gusty conditions could bring bursts of heavy showers along the coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere is going to be quite strong winds overnight&#8230;
