New York City\u2019s mayor is traditionally invited by the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the lavish event every year, but we\u2019re told that Mamdani, 34, won\u2019t be joining Cond\u00e9 Nast\u2019s Anna Wintour<\/a> and her coterie of celeb guests on Monday, May 4.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s not coming,\u201d said a source. \u201cAnd it would be foolish if he did \u2026 can you imagine? It goes against everything he believes in.\u201d<\/p>\n New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and first lady Rama Duwaji, seen at Gracie Mansion, are skipping the Met Gala, sources tell Page Six. James Keivom<\/p>\n Indeed, the event is being financially subsidized by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos \u2014\u00a0currently the world\u2019s third richest man<\/a> \u2014 and his wife, Lauren S\u00e1nchez-Bezos, who have been named as lead donors<\/a> and honorary co-chairs of the gala,<\/a> which raises money for the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Met.<\/p>\n Mamdani has said, \u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t think that we should have billionaires.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite this, a well-placed New York socialite told Page Six, \u201cIt\u2019s such a New York institution. I think he should go. It\u2019s a very New York moment.\u201d<\/p>\n And NYC mayors have often attended the annual ball.
