\n\tParamount has unveiled the first footage from Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol<\/a>, its new take on Charles Dickens\u2019 classic 1843 novella A Christmas Carol, directed by Ti West<\/a> and starring Johnny Depp<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn A Christmas Carol \u2014 one of the most frequently adapted works in film and television history \u2014 we follow Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly businessman who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, forcing him to confront his life and ultimately change his ways.<\/p>\n

\n\tFootage previewed in-room-only in Las Vegas showed everything you\u2019d expect \u2014 a homely, elderly looking Depp in prosthetics, as Scrooge, shouting \u201cBa, humbug!\u201d and being visited by three ghosts, who will change his perspective on life.<\/p>\n

\n\tParamount billed the film as a \u201cbold new twist\u201d on a classic tale, with Depp on hand to promote it following a taped introduction from West.<\/p>\n

\n\tDepp said it was \u201can extraordinary privilege to step into a story I have been obsessed with since I was a little child.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added, \u201cWhen I was approached by Ti West, my first thought was, there\u2019s no one who can do it as good as Alastair Sim did in the \u201930s or whatever. It\u2019s a magical performance. But then I thought, that\u2019s no reason not to attempt something\u2026I think Ti really did something very special.\u201d (The Sim version was released in 1951.)<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom Paramount, in association with Domain Entertainment, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol releases November 13. Nathaniel Halpern penned the script, with Emma Watts producing.<\/p>\n

\n\tEbenezer also stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Charlie Murphy, Tramell Tillman, and Ian McKellen.<\/p>\n
