Penrith Panthers<\/a>, New South Wales Blues<\/a> and Australian Kangaroos superstar Nathan Cleary<\/a> is set to test the open market for the first time in his career.<\/p>\n While he hasn’t said it’s a guarantee, he has certainly hinted it’s going to happen.<\/p>\n The Penrith Panthers<\/a> have a stretched salary cap, and just maybe, the star halfback is getting itchy feet around what his legacy will be if he never tries to play outside of the Penrith system.<\/p>\n There are plenty of fresh challenges around the competition for him to have a crack at while he is still in the prime of his career.<\/p>\n From heading to an under fire club, to an expansion one, to linking up with another premiership contender, all options are on the table for a player who will fetch well and truly over a million per season once he starts to test his true worth from November 1.<\/p>\n Penrith are still a great chance of capturing Cleary’s signature, but if he does leave the foot of the mountains, where does he wind up?<\/p>\n We have analysed and ranked every club’s chance of landing the Penrith star.<\/p>\n 18. Brisbane Broncos<\/p>\n The most unlikely landing spot for Nathan Cleary<\/a> would appear to be the Brisbane Broncos<\/a>.<\/p>\n They are going to head into the 2027 season with a new halves combination in Jonah Pezet<\/a>, seen as the long-term replacement to Adam Reynolds<\/a>, and Ezra Mam<\/a>.<\/p>\n Both are contracted long-term, and while the salary saving on Payne Haas’ departure to the South Sydney Rabbitohs<\/a> could be put towards Cleary, Brisbane have already used a chunk of it on Mitch Barnett<\/a> and clearly have far more pressing needs around their squad than adding yet another half, no matter how good Cleary is. <\/p>\n Safe to say this one isn’t going to happen.<\/p>\n
