Ridley Scott<\/a> fans never have to wait too long between films, as the 88-year-old continues to be one of Hollywood\u2019s most prolific directors. Less than two years after \u201cGladiator II\u201d hit theaters, Scott is ready to roll out a new project: \u201cThe Dog Stars<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacob Elordi<\/a> leads the sci-fi drama (taking over a role originally intended for Paul Mescal<\/a>), which follows a pilot living in an abandoned Colorado airport hangar after a deadly flu virus has largely wiped out human society as we know it. While he has befriended an ex-Marine (Josh Brolin) while battling a band of invaders known as Reapers, he pursues a radio signal that suggests they\u2019re not alone in the wilderness. Margaret Qualley, Allison Janey, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong also star in the film<\/a>, which is adapted from Peter Heller\u2019s 2012 novel of the same name. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Dog Stars\u201d is written by \u201cThe Revenant\u201d screenwriter Mark L. Smith. Scott, Smith, Cliff Roberts, and Michael Pruss serve as producers on the film. <\/p>\n

Disney debuted the trailer for \u201cThe Dog Stars\u201d during the studio\u2019s Thursday afternoon presentation at CinemaCon<\/a>, giving it a high profile slot alongside films like \u201cAvengers: Doomsday\u201d and \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu.\u201d The film\u2019s late August release date allows it to function as both a summer blockbuster and a potential awards contender if reviews are positive. Other notable films teased at Disney\u2019s CinemaCon presentation included Martin McDonaugh\u2019s \u201cWild Horse Nine,\u201d \u201cToy Story 5,\u201d \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2,\u201d and the live-action \u201cMoana\u201d remake.<\/p>\n

Given how quickly Scott works, it\u2019s always a safe bet that he\u2019ll be returning to the director\u2019s chair soon after \u201cThe Dog Stars\u201d opens. He is currently attached to multiple projects, including a Bee Gees biopic and a period war film about the Battle of Britain.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Dog Stars\u201d will mark the completion of a very busy year for Elordi that began with the release of Emerald Fennell\u2019s \u201cWuthering Heights\u201d and continued with the long-delayed third season of \u201cEuphoria.\u201d <\/p>\n
