A tractor and trailer carrying grain has rolled on Auckland’s Southern Motorway near P\u014dkeno \u2013 leaving one person seriously injured.<\/p>\n

The main route south of Auckland had to closed for several hours before reopening about 7pm, however police said further delays could be expected as the congestion cleared.<\/p>\n

The toppled tractor and trailer had blocked both southbound lanes and caused “significant delays” for motorists heading in both directions.<\/p>\n

Police said the single-vehicle crash was reported at around 2.30pm.<\/p>\n

St John said it responded with one ambulance.<\/p>\n

“One patient was assessed at the scene by the ambulance crew and is being transported to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition. A second patient declined an assessment from our ambulance staff.”<\/p>\n

Footage captured by 1News showed grain scattered across the road and salvage crews on the scene.<\/p>\n

Fire and Emergency NZ said it responded with three crews from P\u014dkeno, Pukekohe and Tuakau to assist police and ambulance staff.<\/p>\n
