Photo \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Both boys were members of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/kawerau\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_self\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/topic\/kawerau\/\">Kawerau<\/a>\u00a0JAB Rugby, which posted about the boys\u2019 deaths on its Facebook page hours after the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we lost two of our JAB tamaiti in a tragic accident. Both boys lived in Kawerau and attended our local schools.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey, along with their whanau were active and valued members of our JAB community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>They gave their \u201cdeepest aroha and awhi\u201d to the boys\u2019 wh\u0101nau, the club wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHold your tamaiti close and keep them near. Our hearts are breaking for these boys, their wh\u0101nau, and for everyone who had the privilege of knowing them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Kawerau mayor Faylene Tunui said the town was standing in \u201clove and solidarity\u201d with their families.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>It was \u201cwith the heaviest heart\u201d that she acknowledged the boys\u2019 tragic passing, Tunui wrote on Facebook this morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether we stand in love and solidarity with the families who are in mourning for their precious loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>She knew the community would unite to support the families, when and where appropriate, she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Emergency services were called to the scene near Boyce Park in Kawerau after a bank collapsed next to Tarawera River. Photo \/ Google Earth<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Three others who were at the scene were also treated yesterday by ambulance staff.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>One local Kawerau woman told the\u00a0Herald\u00a0she knew the families and the victims were \u201cgreat boys\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were just fishing, doing nothing wrong, not being naughty. They were really good boys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>She described Kawerau, a small town with a population of just over 7680, as a community where everyone knows everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>With few accidents happening in the region, she said, the community has been greatly affected by the loss.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all know each other here.
