Dunedin police negotiated with two 13-year-old girls for 45 minutes after they leapt into Moana Pool\u2019s lazy river fully clothed and refused to get out.<\/p>\n
Pool staff called police at 8pm to report the teen pair were refusing to leave the leisure pool.<\/p>\n
Police attempted to negotiate with the girls,\u00a0Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.<\/p>\n
They refused for 45 minutes and remained floating in the pool next to the lazy river.<\/p>\n
One of the girl\u2019s parents arrived, however, the teenager was abusive to them.<\/p>\n
The pair got out at 8.45pm and headed to the changing rooms.<\/p>\n
They then became even more uncooperative towards police, so the pair were arrested.<\/p>\n
The two teenagers had come to police attention earlier after they had allegedly tried to steal two electric scooters from a George St store that afternoon.<\/p>\n
The pair entered the store at 4pm and immediately ran over to take two e-scooters.<\/p>\n
Store staff managed to get one of the girls out of the store, and while they were busy with her, the second teenager tried to take another scooter.<\/p>\n
She was also stopped, and the pair push and pulled on the doors to get out.<\/p>\n
They fled on foot and police were unable to locate them.<\/p>\n
After the pool incident, they were returned to their parents.<\/p>\n
The girls would be followed up by Youth Aid, Snr Sgt Notman said.<\/p>\n
