\n\tThe Queen of Pop emerged during Carpenter\u2019s performance of \u201cJuno\u201d \u2014 at the song\u2019s iconic pose moment \u2014 as the track cut into Madonna\u2019s \u201cVogue\u201d medley, with the two pop stars performing the 1990 classic together to a frenzy from the crowd. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe pair then appeared to perform an unreleased track together, widely believed to be from Confessions II, Madonna\u2019s long-awaited sequel to her 2005 dance landmark Confessions on a Dance Floor<\/a>, due July 3 via Warner Records.<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore closing out with \u201cLike a Prayer,\u201d Madonna addressed the crowd directly, tying the moment to a personal Coachella milestone. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c20 years ago today I performed at Coachella \u2014 I was at the dance tent,\u201d she said from the stage. \u201cIt was the first time I performed Confessions from the dancefloor. Same boots, same corsets\u2026 it\u2019s like a full circle moment.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tShe then noted the astrological significance of the evening: \u201cI also want to point out it\u2019s the new moon of Taurus. Seven planets lined up in Aries\u2026 avoid confrontations. In all circumstances \u2014 for the rest of the month \u2014 let\u2019s try to get along, let\u2019s try to be together, let\u2019s try to avoid disagreements.\u201d Carpenter, for her part, leaned into the moment: \u201cShe\u2019s pointing to me because I\u2019m a Taurus.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMadonna\u2019s 2006 Coachella performance served as a warm-up for the launch of her Confessions Tour, which went on to gross over $194 million from 60 shows and became the highest-grossing tour by a female artist at that time. <\/p>\n

\n\tHer return to the same stage two decades later, performing the same era\u2019s music ahead of its sequel, gave Friday night\u2019s appearance a rare sense of full-circle weight that the crowd felt viscerally.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe appearance made for a considerably more musically star-studded set than Carpenter\u2019s weekend one showing, where guest appearances were limited to actors Susan Sarandon, Will Ferrell and Sam Elliott. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe surprise appearance comes after Madonna\u00a0confirmed<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0Confessions II\u00a0<\/a>will bring the Queen of Pop back to the dance floor this summer,\u00a0as well as the release of her first full taste of new music, \u201cI Feel So Free.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe weekend, Actress Geena Davis also joined for a spoken word monologue \u2014 mirroring Sarandon\u2019s cameo from the prior weekend \u2014 while Terry Crews appeared mid-set to poke fun at his iconic role in White Chicks and lightly sing \u201cA Thousand Miles.\u201d<\/p>\n
