The National Party has announced its Dunedin candidate for this year’s general election.<\/p>\n
Kristine Asuncion is a business owner,\u00a0Ashburton dairy farmer, and “people and culture professional”.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud to stand as National\u2019s candidate in Dunedin – a city that has shaped my journey as a migrant, a business owner, a mother, and a professional,\u201d Ms Asuncion said in a statement\u00a0 released this afternoon.<\/p>\n
\u201cDunedin gave me the opportunity to study, to build a life, and to grow a business. Now, I want to give back by ensuring this city remains a place where families and businesses can thrive, people feel safe and hard work is rewarded.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Asuncion has more than a decade of experience in dairy farming alongside her husband, as well as leadership in people and culture, workforce development, and migrant advocacy across New Zealand\u2019s primary industries, the statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the war in Iran pushing up fuel costs for Kiwis it is good to see the National-led Government respond with timely, targeted and temporary relief for 143,000 low-to-middle income families who are receiving a $50 per week boost until fuel prices return to normal,” she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis package is fully funded, meaning it provides relief to those who need it, without unnecessarily increasing inflation and interest rates which would make life harder for those in Dunedin.<\/p>\n
\u201cProtecting New Zealand\u2019s economy is vital for our future, which is why National is replacing the RMA with a new planning system which will stop the culture of \u2018no\u2019 in Dunedin, growing the economy by $3 billion every year to create jobs, lift wages and lower price increases for Kiwis.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hard work starts now; I\u2019ll be out and about in the community meeting as many people as possible to earn the privilege to be Dunedin\u2019s next National MP and to re-elect a National government.”<\/p>\n
The election will be held on November 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n
