Image: InSyde Media <\/p>\n<p>The #17 Shell V-Power Mustang finished fifth in the 120km race after an off-track excursion at Turn 3 filled the air intake with dirt.<\/p>\n<p>Kostecki had been chasing third-placed Ryan Wood when both sailed off at the tricky corner just over 10 laps from home.<\/p>\n<p>According to DJR, coolant and oil temperature inside the engine reached 123 and 149 degrees respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The engine\u2019s ECU responded to the high temperatures by richening the fuel mixture, allowing temps to normalise over the final laps.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fcttn.com\/products\/v8s-in-nz-tee\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-1.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>DJR will return the engine to control Ford supplier Triple Eight following the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Championship leader Kostecki said it was a tough race from the early stages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t even see where I was going,\u201d said Kostecki.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe windscreen got really dirty, like lap five or six. It was sort of hard to see and there were a lot of marbles off line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it was quite hard to place the Shell V-Power Ford Mustang, that was a horrible race for us. We\u2019ll take fifth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kostecki won the day\u2019s earlier soft tyre race from pole, but qualified just seventh for the super soft tyre affair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just have to be a bit faster,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe struggled a lot at the start of the race, but I felt like after the pit stop, I started coming back towards the front towards Broc (Feeney) and (Ryan) Woody, but ultimately, we just weren\u2019t fast enough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just need to do a bit of homework and try to be better tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kostecki\u2019s teammate rookie Rylan Gray meanwhile enjoyed his first top 10 finishes of the season in Races 2 and 3 of the Christchurch weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Gray took the flag 11th in Race 2 before being elevated to 10th due to a Zach Bates penalty, before again taking 10th in Race 3.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/t.cfjump.com\/92797\/b\/250635\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored noopener\" data-bid=\"1\" data-no-instant=\"1\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/250635.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brodie Kostecki&#8217;s Ford Mustang undergoing an engine change.
