McGoldrick, who has two young children, says it\u2019s easy to get caught up in what you might be missing, but she\u2019s learning to focus more on what her children are actually experiencing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you meet my children, they\u2019re the most loved children you\u2019ve ever met,\u201d she says. \u201cThey miss Mum and Dad, but they know that they\u2019re loved.\u201d<\/p>\n
For McGoldrick, being surrounded by family has always been key.<\/p>\n
Raised in Christchurch, she grew up in a close-knit household, with extended family nearby and heavily involved in everyday life.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very close to all of our family. I\u2019ve got lots of cousins \u2013 my dad\u2019s one of eight, so there are heaps of us.\u201d<\/p>\n
McGoldrick recalls her parents being around for all the important things in her childhood. <\/p>\n
\u201cMe and my brothers never wanted for anything or felt like we were missing out. They were busy, but a parent was always at a sporting event or whatever it was.\u201d<\/p>\n
This has informed her own approach to parenting. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t miss a lot,\u201d she says. \u201cThat\u2019s the priority for me always.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite making a concerted effort to be present for her children, McGoldrick isn\u2019t immune to suffering from the occasional bout of mum guilt, something she handles \u201csome days better than others\u201d.<\/p>\n
Ultimately, McGoldrick doesn\u2019t consider parenting and her career as opposing forces. <\/p>\n
She says she still has a lot of goals and dreams but doesn\u2019t believe those have to go on hold now that she has children.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of going, \u2018I\u2019ve chosen that over them\u2019 \u2013 no I haven\u2019t. I can do that with them beside me.\u201d<\/p>\n
