\n\tCharlize Theron<\/a> is weighing in on Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>\u2018s earlier comments about ballet and opera, calling them \u201cvery reckless\u201d and defending the art forms.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with The New York Times<\/a> published Saturday, Theron spoke about the physical and mental demands of dance while discussing her own experience.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDance is probably one of the hardest things I ever did. Dancers are superheroes. What they put their bodies through in complete silence,\u201d the Mad Max: Fury Road star said, prompting the reporter to joke, \u201cSorry, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOh, boy, I hope I run into him one day,\u201d Theron replied. \u201cThat was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time. But in 10 years, AI is going to be able to do Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live. And we shouldn\u2019t [expletive] on other art forms.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter reached out to Chalamet\u2019s reps for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDance taught me discipline. It taught structure. It taught hard work. It taught me to be tough. It\u2019s borderline abusive,\u201d she continued. \u201cThere were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don\u2019t get a day off. I\u2019m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that\u2019s something that you have to practice every single day, the mindset of just, you don\u2019t give up, there\u2019s no other option, you keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChalamet first sparked backlash in February during a Variety and CNN town hall with Matthew McConaughey. During the chat, the Marty Supreme star was asked whether audiences are still interested in slower-paced movies.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe responded saying he wouldn\u2019t want to be involved in an art form that \u201cno one cares about,\u201d noting ballet and opera as examples. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore,\u2019\u201d Chalamet said with a laugh. \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there \u2026 I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I\u2019m taking shots for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis remarks drew criticism<\/a> from members of the opera and ballet communities, as well as other celebrities.<\/p>\n
