{"id":386926,"date":"2026-04-19T07:10:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T07:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/386926\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T07:10:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T07:10:10","slug":"kerikeri-salvation-army-store-fire-likely-deliberately-lit-investigator-says-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/386926\/","title":{"rendered":"Kerikeri Salvation Army store fire likely deliberately lit, investigator says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Hamberger said damage to the charity shop\u2019s building, shop and stock was significant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">The neighbouring bakery escaped serious damage, but a 90kg gas bottle at the rear of the building was on fire, putting the business out of action.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Fire investigator Graeme Matthews said inquiries were continuing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got a bit more work to do to wrap up the investigation, but at this stage, we\u2019re treating it as potentially suspicious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">Matthews said the fire started at the back of the building and went up into the roof space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">He said it was a blow to the young family that had bought the bakery just two months ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">They had since had an electrician, gas fitter and refrigeration technician in to carry out repairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">In a social media post, the Kerikeri Bakehouse and Cafe owners said the business would reopen from 7am Monday, and thanked customers for their patience and support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">The Salvation Army store has been boarded up and will need major repairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"npuzLaxKHxgCDhG\" style=\"display:none\">\u2013 RNZ<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Hamberger said damage to the charity shop\u2019s building, shop and stock was significant.
