Ford has kept its promise, and returned to the Nurburgring to beat Chevrolet\u2019s lap record in the Corvette ZR1X.<\/p>\n
But there\u2019s controversy surrounding the blistering 6:40.835 lap.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Unlike the Corvette, which set its 6:49.275 lap in production form, there are some questions being asked about the Mustang GTD that Ford used.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Ford, a new variant of the Mustang GTD was used to set the lap \u2014 the Competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new Mustang GTD Competition will be offered in the future as a special edition, street legal model available in strictly limited, serialized quantities,\u201d Ford said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This was the only official information the world has heard about this Mustang GTD Competition, but it clearly has some significant upgrades over the \u201cstandard\u201d GTD.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It likely has more power than the standard 607kW, and this is probably achieved through the use of a larger supercharger.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It also reportedly has an upgraded DRS system, with secondary dive planes mounted on the front bumper. Ford also didn\u2019t reveal what tyres were used during the lap. <\/p>\n
While this is all well and good if Ford follows this up with a production version of this GTD Competition, questions are being asked as to whether the road car will be identical.\u00a0<\/p>\n
