extreme weather in Wellington<\/a>.<\/p>\nA family member called emergency services after being unable to make contact with Phillip Sutton, who is aged in his 60s.<\/p>\n
Sutton’s Karori South Road property was found to be hit by floodwaters and debris.<\/p>\n
Police have been checking places Sutton was known to go, and were searching in South Karori Road and nearby streams.<\/p>\n
Later on Monday afternoon, police and civil defence teams were seen leaving the area.<\/p>\n
Police took a fender from the side of the road into one of their vans. They said they would release more information in a statement later.<\/p>\n

RNZ watched police vans drive away from South Karori Road and did not see them elsewhere in the area, as locals undertook clear-up efforts.<\/p>\n

One man was pulling debris from floodwaters rushing over the road. Another was clearing mud with a digger. Piles of debris and fallen trees were heaped at the sides of the road.<\/p>\n
A chair was left sat next to the streaming waters.<\/p>\n
