But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/fashion\/a44564582\/lisa-snowdon-pink-suit\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/fashion\/a44564582\/lisa-snowdon-pink-suit\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Lisa Snowdon\" data-node-id=\"3.1\" class=\"body-link css-7v8mn9 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lisa Snowdon<\/a> has always been strangely down to earth. Recently, she\u2019s become a prominent advocate for menopause awareness, sharing her personal experience with perimenopause, which began in her early 40s and triggered a wave of symptoms, including intense anxiety, a misdiagnosis with depression and three stone in weight gain. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Yet, just last month, she completed a gruelling 50-kilometre trek through the Sahara Desert to raise funds and awareness for Meningitis Now. How? Lisa has been working with Paul Webb, lead performance coach at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zonesix.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.zonesix.co.uk\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Zone Six\" data-node-id=\"8.1\" class=\"body-link css-7v8mn9 emevuu60\">Zone Six<\/a>, for four years.  When she first arrived, he explains, \u2018Lisa had very definite goals, which made writing programmes for her so much easier. When she first came to Zone Six, she explained that she was journeying through menopause and wanted to train to help her stay strong, fit and healthy.\u2019<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Four years on, the pair still focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/health\/a70986049\/gabby-logan-weekly-fitness-rerime\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/health\/a70986049\/gabby-logan-weekly-fitness-rerime\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"strength\" data-node-id=\"12.1\" class=\"body-link css-7v8mn9 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">strength<\/a> work, adding in elements according to what Lisa needs at that point in time \u2013 training for that challenging trek, for example. \u2018For strength, we focus on basic compound exercise, such as deadlifts, squats, different types of rows and presses,\u2019 says Paul. \u2018These are supplemented with isolation exercises, such as tricep extensions, step-ups and bicep curls, as well as body weight and band options, core work and, of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/product-reviews\/health-leisure\/a70594951\/domyos-fitness-trampoline-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/product-reviews\/health-leisure\/a70594951\/domyos-fitness-trampoline-review\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"cardio\" data-node-id=\"12.3\" class=\"body-link css-7v8mn9 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cardio<\/a> for conditioning and overall fitness.\u2019<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">What advice does he have for those of us looking to get fitter and stronger at home, even if our walks take place in Somerset or south London instead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/lifestyle\/travel\/a64433923\/disabled-holidays\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.goodhousekeeping.com\/uk\/lifestyle\/travel\/a64433923\/disabled-holidays\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Sahara\" data-node-id=\"17.1\" class=\"body-link css-7v8mn9 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sahara<\/a>? Number one: identify your goal, he suggests. \u2018I would advise anyone to know what they are training for first. Do you need to get stronger? Lose a little bit of weight? Recover from an injury? Get fitter? Then you can target your training for that specific reason,\u2019 says Paul.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"22\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Next, start slowly \u2013 \u2018Especially if you are new to exercise and remember that even walking daily can yield results,\u2019 says Paul. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"26\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">When you\u2019re exploring different kinds of movement, look at what\u2019s available for free, he suggests: \u2018There are plenty of videos on YouTube that you can follow, which demonstrate different types of exercise, from mat work Pilates and yoga to basic bodyweight strength exercises.\u2019<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"31\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">Once you\u2019ve found what works for you, \u2018Purchasing basic equipment like resistance bands can really help deliver a wide variety of exercises and they\u2019re very reasonably priced,\u2019 he explains. It\u2019s not about fancy kit or expensive accessories. The real key? \u2018No matter what you choose to do, continually showing up will give you the most benefit and ensure progress,\u2019 says Paul. \u2018Consistency is your superpower.\u2019<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"35\" class=\"css-6wxqfj emevuu60\">This year, GH is getting fit (enough).
