Jim Parsons says he wouldn\u2019t return for a The Big Bang Theory reboot and \u201ccan\u2019t say\u201d he misses Sheldon<\/p>\n

In a new interview, he explained the character was closely tied to his own personality after 12 seasons<\/p>\n

Parsons says he\u2019s still surprised fans approach him about playing Sheldon Cooper but finds it \u201creally sweet\u201d<\/p>\n

Jim Parsons<\/a> is looking back on his time as Sheldon Cooper with gratitude\u2014but not necessarily longing.<\/p>\n

The Big Bang Theory followed a group of socially awkward scientist friends navigating work, friendship and relationships, with Parsons portraying Sheldon Cooper, a brilliant but eccentric physicist known for his rigid routines, lack of social awareness and sharp intellect.<\/p>\n

While appearing on The View<\/a> on Friday to promote his role in Broadway\u2019s Titanique, the Emmy-winning actor reflected on his 12-season run on The Big Bang Theory<\/a>, and whether he\u2019d ever consider stepping back into Sheldon\u2019s shoes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe I would do a reboot,\u201d 53-year-old Parsons said, per Decider<\/a>. \u201cI can\u2019t say I miss him, partly because, especially 12 years on a TV show where they\u2019re writing for this specific actor, there\u2019s a lot of me in that. Not the genius part, but there\u2019s a lot of me in that.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Parsons, who won four Primetime Emmy Awards for the role, Sheldon remains a defining part of his legacy\u2014which the actor acknowledges even now.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot about his qualities and just who he was\u201d that the actor says he still carries with him, adding that he still gets “so much reaction to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, fan enthusiasm continues to catch him off guard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe longer it goes on, I\u2019m more and more surprised when people approach me about it,\u201d he admitted. \u201cNot because I\u2019m stupid, but because I\u2019m like, oh, it makes sense, but I\u2019m just not thinking it. But it\u2019s always really sweet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show ultimately ended after Parsons decided season 12 would be his last, a decision his cast members have said they felt blindsided<\/a> by. The actor did reprise the role for the Young Sheldon<\/a> spinoff, saying in a 2024 episode of Today<\/a> that it was \u201cvery weird\u201d but \u201calso very beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n
