Blossoms<\/a>\u00a0have ushered in their new era with the\u00a0jaunty\u00a0single \u2018Joke About Divorce\u2019 \u2013\u00a0check\u00a0out the video below.<\/p>\n

The Stockport indie heroes have not released any new music since the expanded edition<\/a>\u00a0of their fifth album \u2018Gary<\/a>\u2019 in 2024\u00a0\u2013 their fourth UK Number One album in total \u2013 but \u2018Joke About Divorce\u2019 is the first taste of\u00a0new music, with more to follow later this year.<\/p>\n

The track, produced by Shawn Lee and released via ODD SK Recordings and Distiller Music, is a spritely, energetic indie pop bop, with frontman Tom Ogden singing: \u201cI guess this argument\u2019s not the place for a joke about divorce \/ My intention\u2019s are just a playful thing to make you laugh of course\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring every argument, no matter how big or small, there\u2019s always that moment where humour could completely disarm you both and diffuse the whole thing,\u201d said Ogden of the track\u2019s inspiration.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn this occasion, I thought joking about divorce would do exactly that\u2026 I just got the timing completely wrong. Instead, it made things worse, and that moment ended up immortalised in a three-and-a-half-minute pop song.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band\u00a0recetly\u00a0completed a European headline tour<\/a>, and they have been announced for a couple of festival appearances this summer:\u00a0at Neighbourhood Weekender\u00a0in Warrington in May<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Tramlines in Sheffield in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Blossoms\u00a0spoke to\u00a0NME\u00a0in September 2024<\/a> around the release of \u2018Gary\u2019, with Ogden saying the band had \u201creally taken the live show to another level\u201d during that era.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does feel like we\u2019ve really stepped it up again,\u201d he explained. \u201cThat\u2019s\u00a0important because I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0want to drift off into the abyss like so many other bands do. This album is helping us stand out from the crowd a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band were also\u00a0among the acts benefitting<\/a>\u00a0from a \u00a31.6million pot of international touring funding.<\/p>\n

Called the Music Export Growth Scheme (MEGS), the touring funding\u00a0programme\u00a0was developed and administered by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), and\u00a0gave away a total of \u00a31.6million to support 58 acts that were looking to expand their global audiences but needed extra financial aid. Funding from\u00a0previous\u00a0rounds of the scheme was given to the likes of\u00a0Beabadoobee<\/a>,\u00a0Dave<\/a>,\u00a0Bicep<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Wolf Alice<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Blossoms\u00a0have ushered in their new era with the\u00a0jaunty\u00a0single \u2018Joke About Divorce\u2019 \u2013\u00a0check\u00a0out the video below.
