James said a man who lived at the property was also transported to hospital and underwent surgery on Monday.<\/p>\n
He said the victims were related and lived together at the house.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, however no charges have been laid at this time,\u201d James said.<\/p>\n
James said close to 30 police officers were working on the homicide investigation.<\/p>\n
Police forensic experts remained at the scene on Tuesday morning doing analysis, with cordons still in place.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts are with all those affected by the incident,\u201d Tangaere said.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Coroner Bruce Hesketh granted an interim non-publication order in relation to the names of the mother, her two children and the man.<\/p>\n
Coroner Hesketh\u2019s ruling said the mother and children died of stab wounds.<\/p>\n
The coroner said police were yet to speak to the man, who also suffered stab wounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is currently unconscious and in Wellington Hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice wish to speak to [the man] so he can assist with their inquiries. He is considered a person of interest\u201d.<\/p>\n

Police also wanted to speak to extended family members, including both the man and woman\u2019s former partners, Hesketh\u2019s ruling said.<\/p>\n
Coroner Hesketh made the orders until May 4.<\/p>\n
Flowers were being laid on Monday by the community as a team of officers worked on an ongoing scene examination around and in the duplex property.<\/p>\n
A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said she had come down with a bouquet because the situation had \u201creally hit home\u201d when she learned it involved children.<\/p>\n

A police tent had been erected at the scene on Monday morning, and a blue hatchback in the driveway of the property was removed.<\/p>\n
Neighbours spoken to by Hawke\u2019s Bay Today said they heard no noise from the home on Saturday night or Sunday morning, and the first they had heard of the homicides was when news articles began to appear late on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
They described the area as a generally quiet piece of suburban New Zealand.<\/p>\n
Hastings Mayor Wendy Schollum said on Monday losing two children, alongside their mother, was a \u201cgrief no family should ever have to carry\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany people across Hastings will be feeling deeply shaken by this today, especially those closest to the family.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen something like this happens, our community wraps around each other.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat support will matter deeply in the days ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know this will be deeply unsettling for people right across our community, especially those living nearby.<\/p>\n
\u201cPolice have been clear that this was an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public, and that reassurance will matter for many today.\u201d<\/p>\n
