A traveller who landed at Auckland International Airport appeared in court yesterday after two dozen items of clothing in his suitcase had been soaked in methamphetamine.<\/p>\n
The first-time visitor was referred for a baggage search last Friday after arriving on a flight from Vancouver.<\/p>\n
Customs officers tested the contents of his suitcase and found 26 items of clothing to be positive for the presence of methamphetamine.<\/p>\n
Auckland Airport Customs manager Paul Williams said it was a “complex concealment” which showed the lengths criminals would go to evade detection.<\/p>\n
“Thanks to our officers\u2019 excellent attention to detail and increasingly sophisticated passenger targeting, we have ways to identify high-risk passengers such as this individual.”<\/p>\n
The man was scheduled to appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday charged with the importation of a Class A drug.<\/p>\n
