Economist Henrietta Treyz warned Monday that soaring gas prices thanks to President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s Iran war may soon be followed by another hit: higher food costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cFood inflation is the next shoe to drop,\u201d Treyz, the Veda Partners co-founder and director of economic policy, told MS NOW\u2019s Katy Tur.<\/p>\n

Treyz drew a stark contrast between the economy during Trump\u2019s second term compared to when former President Joe Biden<\/a> was leaving office.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty amazing when you think about what the president inherited,\u201d she said. \u201cWe were coming off of continuous prosperity, lowering inflation, prices coming down, growth in the manufacturing sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

There was \u201cliterally nothing you could do to stop the economy under the AI boom and all the rest,\u201d she added, lamenting: \u201cAnd now here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cost of jet fuel has surged with \u201coutright shortages,\u201d causing flight disruptions across Asia and prompting measures in Europe and the U.S., Treyz noted. And there\u2019s more to come, she cautioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything that takes diesel or gasoline to move, whether it\u2019s everything you buy at Walmart or your groceries from the store, all that is still to come and to get more expensive,\u201d she predicted.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the long-term cost of this war, especially when you\u2019re judging it by the economy that the president was handed, is really just depressing to think about the growth that we could be under,\u201d she added. \u201cInstead, we\u2019re dealing with rising inflation again. The Fed can\u2019t cut interest rates.
