{"id":391354,"date":"2026-04-22T01:40:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/391354\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T01:40:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:40:11","slug":"popular-houston-radio-host-exits-93q-as-station-looks-for-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/391354\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular Houston radio host exits 93Q as station looks for replacement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/mo-lunsford-rod-ryan-show-94-5-20310389.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">familiar voice<\/a> has signed off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/houston-roula-christie-camp-mystic-22205681.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">on Houston radio<\/a>. 93Q Country is searching for a new midday host after\u00a0Gerardo Sproet exited the role, with news of his departure announced over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A Houston native,\u00a0Sproet spent his entire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/news\/houston-texas\/article\/cumulus-bankruptcy-houston-krbe-21970042.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">radio career<\/a> with KKBQ. He joined the station&#8217;s promotions department in 2019, moved on-air in 2022 and was promoted to evening host in July 2023. In January 2025, he shifted to middays, taking over a slot that had gone without a permanent host since Corey Dillon left in October 2024 after three and a half years.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the station is already looking for his replacement. In a newly posted <a href=\"https:\/\/workforcenow.adp.com\/mascsr\/default\/mdf\/recruitment\/recruitment.html?cid=ec7ee775-68fd-42a7-89a5-d8e1ff330cbf&amp;ccId=19000101_000002&amp;type=MP&amp;locale=en_US&amp;jobId=580116\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">job listing<\/a>, 93Q says it wants a host who &#8220;will be fun, compelling, talented, professional and understand how to create great radio in a PPM-friendly environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sproet acknowledged the change in a Facebook post that quickly drew reaction from listeners, many of whom said they were stunned to hear he was gone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What????? Nooooooo I liked listening to you my radio stayed on 92.9 while you were on,&#8221; one commenter wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This can&#8217;t be for real. He was the best on there. Im gonna miss him,&#8221; another added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Will miss hearing you on the radio! but bigger things will be coming your way!&#8221; a third person wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Chron has reached out to Sproet for comment.<\/p>\n<p>KKBQ, branded as 93Q Country and &#8220;Houston\u2019s Country Leader,&#8221; is one of the city&#8217;s best-known country stations. Licensed to Pasadena and serving the Greater Houston area, the Urban One-owned outlet broadcasts on 92.9 FM and has won multiple ACM Radio Station of the Year honors.<\/p>\n<p>Sproet&#8217;s exit is the latest shakeup in Houston country radio this year.
