I am, by and large, a genial, laid-back person. I don\u2019t typically hold grudges and I\u2019m usually one to forgive and forget. But once in a blue moon, someone in my orbit does something to me to which I take great offense. I\u2019m not above carrying out a reciprocal action so I can have a smug feeling of self-satisfaction \u2013 a small, petty act that makes me feel temporarily better. <\/p>\n

Most recently, it was doing something just so the other person couldn\u2019t. No one was harmed in any way and I doubt they even noticed. Though I\u2019m ultimately not proud of doing that thing, it felt good in the moment. <\/p>\n

There\u2019s no real words of wisdom for me to share here. I just think it\u2019s okay to deliver a tiny dose of harmless revenge sometimes.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, April 23 are coming right up. Let\u2019s get rolling!<\/p>\n

NYT Connections \u2013 How To Play<\/p>\n

Connections is a free New York Times daily word game that you can play on the NYT\u2019s website or Games app. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game.<\/p>\n

Connections presents you with a grid of 16 words (sometimes phrases, symbols or numbers). The aim is to arrange them into four groups of four. You don\u2019t know how they hit together or what the category for each group is: that\u2019s what you have to figure out.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s only one correct solution and there are often red herrings. You can guess incorrectly three times. A fourth wrong guess, and it\u2019s game over.<\/p>\n

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to deduce, followed by blue, green and purple. Often, the yellow and green groups have synonyms, the blues have cultural references and the purples have some kind of wordplay involved. But this is not a hard and fast rule. Be ready for curveballs \u2013 part of the fun of Connections is in how the NYT shakes things up to keep you on your toes.<\/p>\n

As with Wordle and similar games, it\u2019s easy to share results with your friends using an emoji-based grid. The game tracks your progress too.<\/p>\n

Many players take pride in having long win streaks or getting a reverse rainbow \u2013 correctly guessing the purple, blue, green and yellow groups in that order with no mistakes. That adds an extra little challenge.<\/p>\n

I appreciated the My Neighbor Totoro reference on the top line, but knew that couldn\u2019t be a group, since the film has a three-word title. So I got to thinking about what else TOTORO could be a reference to. That\u2019s when WHAMMY caught my eye. Toto… Wham… Those are ’80s bands! DEVOTE and ASIAGO rounded out the purples. (I did some research for the hint and, apparently, Wham were never an opening act!)<\/p>\n

PULP and SCIENCE then made the greens clear. I am 100% sure we’ve had a group like that in the past. The blues were up next. I didn’t even remember what “MY VERY EDUCATED MOTHER” referred to, just that I vaguely recalled it being a phrase.<\/p>\n

That left the yellows for a 418th win in a row.<\/p>\n
