COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -If you\u2019re driving along East Fountain Boulevard in Colorado Springs, you might spot an unusual sight at the end of a driveway: two towering wolf figures that are hard to miss.<\/p>\n
They\u2019re one of the latest creations from local artist Sofia Hernandez Crade \u2014 and they\u2019re not just sculptures. Hernandez Crade says the wolves are giant puppets, built with ropes on each side of the face so the head can move, and they can even wag their tails, all with human operators.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tried to make them as articulating as possible just so then they can convey many emotions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Hernandez Crade created the wolves for their debut at the Manitou Springs Carnivale Parade in February. The event theme was \u201cLove is Wild,\u201d which inspired her to explore what love means.<\/p>\n
\u201cWolves mate for life,\u201d she said, adding that sometimes love also requires \u201callowing space for it to actually grow and to be wild.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also believes Colorado Springs\u2019 art scene is gaining momentum.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven in the last five years, things have been getting really dialed up creatively,\u201d Hernandez Crade said.<\/p>\n
Hernandez Crade says she\u2019s working on more large-scale pieces.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith these kinds of colossal pieces\u2026 it\u2019s kind of like, \u2018Oh, wow, anything\u2019s possible,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
