She emphasized that PTAD will operate strictly as a neutral administrator, distancing itself from internal disagreements among pension unions while ensuring full compliance with government directives and applicable laws.

At the core of the new system is a structured recognition framework guided by the Registrar of Trade Unions. This framework clearly defines which unions are eligible to receive deductions. Under the arrangement, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners will receive dues from pensioners within the Civil Service Pensions Department, while the Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria will collect from pensioners in parastatals, including those in tertiary institutions, healthcare, and defunct agencies.

Deductions will be processed monthly based on verified pension records, with remittances made to approved union accounts within 14 working days after pension payments. Each transaction will include a detailed schedule, and any discrepancies must be reported within 30 days.

Crucially, the Directorate has put safeguards in place to protect pensioners. No deductions will exceed approved limits or violate existing pension regulations. Pensioners also retain full control, with the option to opt out at any time through a formal withdrawal process.

Stakeholders have been advised to channel disputes through the Registrar of Trade Unions, as PTAD maintains its commitment to transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to legal frameworks. However, the Directorate also noted that it reserves the right to suspend remittances in cases of legal disputes, irregularities, or conflicting directives, signaling that unresolved tensions within pension unions could still impact implementation.

For Nigeria’s broader economic landscape, particularly within the MSME ecosystem, the move reinforces the importance of predictable income flows and institutional trust. A more transparent pension system can enhance financial stability for retirees, many of whom engage in small-scale business activities to supplement their income.

As the April 30 rollout approaches, focus will shift to how effectively the policy is implemented and whether it can resolve the persistent frictions that have long defined pension union dues in Nigeria.

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has fixed April 30, 2026, as the commencement date for the deduction…

[15
138,120807,203406,203407,336,203408,160227,203409,24290,203410,111,139,203411,69,203412,203413
0":"post-393727","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-entrepreneurship","8":"tag-business","9":"tag-callforapplications","10":"tag-creativeeconomy","11":"tag-creativefund","12":"tag-entrepreneurship","13":"tag-fashionindustry","14":"tag-filmindustry","15":"tag-fundingopportunity","16":"tag-msmes","17":"tag-musicindustry","18":"tag-new-zealand","19":"tag-newzealand","20":"tag-nigeriacreatives","21":"tag-nz","22":"tag-tech4dev","23":"tag-uknigeriatechhub
["GET
