\u201cI\u2019ve asked him what is your favourite job ever? And forget being a movie star, he said to me that his favourite job ever was when he was a lifeguard at the local pool in Granville,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause he could sit there, everyone could swim, shirt off, in the sunshine, smoke a ciggie and just have a good day.\u201d<\/p>\n
The insight comes as Crocodile Dundee celebrates its 40th anniversary, with Hogan reflecting on the film that turned her grandfather into an international star.<\/p>\n
She said the 1986 hit had always been part of her life growing up in Australia but its true cultural reach only became clear after she moved to the US.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that I live here in the United States, and I get around, and people hear the accent or ask you what your name is, and you\u2019ll say, \u2018Oh, Mylee Hogan\u2019, and they\u2019ll go \u2018Hogan, like Paul Hogan?\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOr they\u2019ll deliver a line like \u2018Throw another shrimp on the barbie\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen I guess I realised just the lasting impact and how massive it has been, which is just surreal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film introduced global audiences to a distinctly Australian sense of humour and became a defining cultural export, grossing more than $300 million worldwide and becoming Australia\u2019s highest-grossing film.<\/p>\n
Hogan said she called her grandfather to congratulate him on the anniversary, adding he still finds the scale of his success \u201cso crazy\u201d.<\/p>\n
Hogan said her grandfather would be \u201cabsolutely touched\u201d by all the lovely messages celebrating the film\u2019s 40th anniversary.<\/p>\n
