Senior National Party MP and Attorney General Chris Bishop was notably absent when called upon to lay a wreath at the Hutt’s Dawn Service this morning. <\/p>\n
Bishop said in a statement to Facebook that he’d received a few questions about the incident which he described as “pretty embarrassing”.<\/p>\n
The Hutt South MP said he was “gutted” about the breakdown in communication which lead to his absence at the remembrance at Hutt Civic Events Centre this morning.<\/p>\n
“I did not know the RSA were expecting to me to lay a wreath and I wasn’t officially invited to do so. Obviously if I had known, I would have been there.”<\/p>\n
“It looks like there was a breakdown in communication between the RSA and my office and me,” said Bishop. <\/p>\n
The MP said “as always” he had attended two Petone services, the later Hutt Civic service and the Wainuiomata service. <\/p>\n
Bishop would also be attending the Ataturk memorial service at Breaker Bay this afternoon on behalf of the Government, where he would be laying a wreath.<\/p>\n
Bishop was appointed Attorney-General on April 7 in a cabinet reshuffle in which he gave up the roles of Leader of the House and National Party campaign chair.<\/p>\n
