A damaged cycle bridge for the Great Taste Trail, can be seen in the middle of the photo.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nPart of the Tasman&#8217;s Great Taste Trail had been damaged by storms in 2025.<br \/>\nPhoto: Samantha Gee \/ RNZ\n<\/p>\n<p>The government is investing more than $800,000 to repair part of the New Zealand Cycle Trail network.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will go towards three &#8216;Great Rides&#8217; &#8211; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/ldr\/591451\/funding-fight-for-storm-ravaged-hauraki-rail-trail-repair\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hauraki Rail Trail<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/national\/492035\/cycle-trails-get-funding-boost-after-cylone-damage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Waikato River Trail,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rnz.co.nz\/news\/business\/580533\/section-of-tasman-s-great-taste-cycle-trail-set-to-reopen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tasman&#8217;s Great Taste Trail<\/a> &#8211; following significant storm damage.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upston said it was important to support tourism businesses to welcome visitors back.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Repairing these trails ensures they can continue to drive regional tourism, support local businesses, and provide high\u2011quality outdoor recreation experiences,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/4NTYQ5A_copyright_image_153614.jpeg\" width=\"1050\" height=\"678\" alt=\"Riders on the Hauraki Rail Trail.\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"photo-captioned__information\">\nRiders on the Hauraki Rail Trail.<br \/>\nPhoto: RNZ \/ Cosmo Kentish-Barnes\n<\/p>\n<p>Upston said funding for marketing had also been approved to help those in the upper North Island that had been affected by severe weather in January to rebuild visitor confidence and support tourism recovery.<\/p>\n<p>That included $55,000 for Hauraki-Coromandel, and $10,000 for the Bay of Plenty.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More than two million people enjoy the 23 Great Rides of Ng\u0101 Haerenga New Zealand Cycle Trails each year, contributing an estimated $1.28 billion to regional economies,&#8221; Upston said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s support helps regions keep welcoming visitors as they recover from severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These trails are a long\u2011standing partnership between central and local government and the communities that host them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s investment reinforces that commitment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/radionz.us6.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=211a938dcf3e634ba2427dde9&amp;id=b3d362e693\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sign up for Ng\u0101 Pitopito K\u014drero<\/a>, a daily newsletter curated by our editors and delivered straight to your inbox every weekday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Part of the Tasman&#8217;s Great Taste Trail had been damaged by storms in 2025.
