{"id":399675,"date":"2026-04-27T09:26:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/399675\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T09:26:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:26:10","slug":"night-manager-team-on-how-limited-series-became-trilogy-promise-faster-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/399675\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Night Manager\u2019 Team On How Limited Series Became Trilogy, Promise Faster Return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDespite its smash success when the adaptation of novelist John le Carr\u00e9\u2019s espionage thriller <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-night-manager\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-night-manager\" data-tag=\"the-night-manager\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Night Manager<\/a> first aired, it took a decade for a second incarnation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/prime-video\/\" id=\"auto-tag_prime-video\" data-tag=\"prime-video\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prime Video<\/a>\/BBC series to return to television \u2013 but the creative team vows it won\u2019t take nearly that long to complete a now-planned trilogy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tCreator and executive producer <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/david-farr\/\" id=\"auto-tag_david-farr\" data-tag=\"david-farr\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Farr<\/a> revealed that work already is in progress on a third installation during Deadline\u2019s Contenders TV panel for the show\u2019s second run.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cRight now, I feel the deep weight of doom of stress about it because I\u2019m the one who has to actually do the writing of the damn thing,\u201d he chuckled. \u201cIt\u2019s a huge challenge. It\u2019ll be very exciting. And it won\u2019t take as long as the last one, I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/contenders-tv\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Full Coverage Of Deadline\u2019s Contenders TV Event<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFarr said viewers should expect the third season to address the Season 2\u2019s dark, concerning ending, which \u201cwas important to us all because the world is a tough place at the moment, and it didn\u2019t feel right not to reflect that. But of course, all of us want to see justice, redemption and we want to see something change, so I feel like Season 3, there is actually a deep emotional and moral imperative to honor that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s also in the title,\u201d offered star <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/tom-hiddleston\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-hiddleston\" data-tag=\"tom-hiddleston\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Hiddleston<\/a>. \u201cJohn le Carr\u00e9 was a genius, is one of the great writers of the 20th century \u2013 I believe that, spies or otherwise. \u2026 He called it The Night Manager for a reason: [Jonathan Pine] is the protagonist, someone who is managing, containing darkness \u2013 principally the darkness inside himself, the darkness of his childhood and the loss of his parents, his disillusionment with military service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cBut also he\u2019s managing the night,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe\u2019s managing the world\u2019s darkness because he believes the light should win. And it\u2019s all comes from him in a way, and it\u2019s such a thrill that we get to do it again. A trilogy feels tidy. And I hope I\u2019m not that much older by the time we start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAddressing the significant gap between the first and second seasons, Farr said there initially was no plan or roadmap to create a follow-up, as there was no le Carr\u00e9-penned sequel to the novel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/02\/tom-hiddleston-hayley-atwell-much-ado-about-nothing-broadway-1236729230\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Hiddleston-Hayley Atwell \u2018Much Ado About Nothing\u2019 Heads To Broadway This Fall; Jamie Lloyd Directs<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThere was never any expectation that we would go ahead and make a second one, because you just don\u2019t do that to great novelists,\u201d Farr explained. \u201cBut it was a huge, huge hit, and we got asked, and le Carr\u00e9 was extremely willing, suddenly, to do so. But of course, we hadn\u2019t prepared anything. It takes time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAnd then one night I had a very specific idea,\u201d Farr continued, \u201cbecause the show is an emotional family drama masquerading as a spy thriller. That\u2019s I think basically the best way of putting it. And I had an idea of a new character called Teddy Dos Santos, who would be secretly familiarly connected to [Hugh Laurie\u2019s villainous] Richard Onslow Roper. And it provided me with both the thriller narrative, excitement, adventure, espionage but also \u2014 more importantly for all of us, I think \u2014 of a deep emotional relationship with Roper that would give Pine a very strong emotional as well as spy mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/01\/the-night-manager-richard-roper-hugh-laurie-stephen-garrett-1236685106\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018The Night Manager\u2019 Producer Is Finally Free To Dish On Season 2\u2019s Big Secret About The \u201cDeliciously Evil\u201d Hugh Laurie<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHiddleston also addressed the long layoff between Night Manager iterations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve been waiting to do this again for so long \u2014 I love this character,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m so inspired by his courage. I\u2019m so inspired and confronted and curious about his internal world and his contradictions. He\u2019s someone who on the surface is immensely capable. He\u2019s confident. He\u2019s capable of great charm and elegance, but his internal world, there are deep wells of pain and solitude and bravery and moral fire. He\u2019s on fire on the inside, and that double helix is something that\u2019s such a privilege to inhabit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI was so thrilled to get to do it again because I\u2019m 10 years older, the world is 10 years older. I\u2019ve been in the same world that he had been in,\u201d the actor continued. \u201cAnd my belief was always that his courage had never dimmed and his curiosity was still searching, searching for some incorruptible, unassailable, unseducible truth about human beings. Beneath all of the lies and beneath all of the corruption, he\u2019s just a crusader. He wants to know the truth about the world\u2026I\u2019m not sure that he\u2019s jaded.
