\n\tGird your loins, because \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2<\/a>\u201d has finally been unveiled to members of the film press and first reactions are trickling in for highly-anticipated sequel. The movie, which marks the return of Meryl Streep<\/a> to her Oscar-nominated role of fashion magazine powerhouse Miranda Priestly, is being called \u201ccharming and fun\u201d and destined to be a \u201cmassive hit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEntertainment journalist Daniel Baptista wrote on X that \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d is a \u201cfun and fierce sequel\u201d that ushers a natural return for stars Streep and Anne Hathaway<\/a>, adding<\/a>: \u201cIt feels familiar in the best way, timely in the right ways, and is well worth the wait.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tVariety\u2018s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay echoed the praise, writing on X<\/a> that \u201c\u2018The Devil Wears Prada 2\u2019 is \u201cphenomenal\u201d and \u201cthe perfect sequel that exceeded all expectations. Aline Brosh McKenna\u2019s script is sharp and witty. We\u2019ll be quoting this for years to come. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt<\/a> are still great. Stunning costumes, and that soundtrack slaps hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTHR senior editor Alex Werpin called the sequel <\/a>a \u201cbiting media parody wrapped up in high fashion,\u201d adding: \u201cEvery journalist who sees it will cringe from recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018The Devil Wears Prada 2\u2019 has no right to be as good as it is,\u201d adds Awards Watch\u2019s Erik Anderson<\/a>. \u201cJust the right kind and number of callbacks and earned nostalgia, Anne Hathaway continues to be our most vibrant star. It\u2019s funny and deeper, and we get the return of \u2018Vogue.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMeryl Streep returns for \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d alongside original cast members Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, plus director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. New cast members include Kenneth Branagh, who is set to play Miranda Priestly\u2019s husband, as well as Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and more.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile plot details for the sequel have remained under wraps, trailers for \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d have revealed that Hathaway\u2019s Andy Sachs returns to Runway to be the magazine\u2019s features editor. In the original, which opened in 2006 and grossed $326 million worldwide, Hathaway\u2019s Andy is an aspiring journalist who becomes the personal assistant to Streep\u2019s Miranda.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film\u2019s popularity has only skyrocketed in the 20 years since its release, so much so that filming \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d on the streets of New York City proved difficult for the cast and crew as fans and paparazzi stormed the shot to follow their every move. Streep told Harper\u2019s Bazaar<\/a> that she \u201cunnerved\u201d while the filming because of what a sensation it caused.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEven though we were aware of the impact of the first film two decades ago, I think none of us were prepared for the ambush of both goodwill and avid attention that engulfed us,\u201d Streep said. \u201cWe needed police barriers and crowd control. Buses of fans turned up, and paparazzi swarmed and in one case kept jumping in front of the camera and the shot and got in a kerfuffle with crew. Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d kicks off this year\u2019s summer movie season when it opens in theaters May 1 from 20th Century Studios and Disney.<\/p>\n
