A leading ratings agency that previously expressed concerns about China\u2019s local debt woes has cast a vote of confidence in the world\u2019s second-largest economy, raising the country\u2019s sovereign credit outlook to \u201cstable\u201d from \u201cnegative\u201d.<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s move by Moody\u2019s Ratings was closely watched, as energy shocks from the US-Israel war in Iran have exacerbated concerns<\/a> about the global economy\u2019s trajectory.<\/p>\n

The agency had dropped China\u2019s sovereign rating from Aa3 to A1 in 2017, its first downgrade for the country in nearly three decades, and lowered its outlook to negative in December 2023.<\/p>\n

In rating committee notes released on Monday, Moody\u2019s affirmed China\u2019s long-term rating at A1 \u2013 upper-medium investment grade \u2013 citing the economy\u2019s resilience in the face of trade and geopolitical pressures.<\/p>\n

China\u2019s economic fundamentals had improved and its institutional strength had \u201cmaterially increased\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n
