According to a leaker, Samsung might be working on a redesign for its Galaxy S smartphones, but there\u2019s a huge asterisk that might put us in the same situation as the Galaxy S26 series was left in.<\/p>\n

Leaker Lanzuk on Korean social media site Naver says<\/a> that Samsung is considering a redesign of the rear camera on the \u201cnext\u201d Galaxy S model, which would be the Galaxy S27. In a comment on the post, Lanzuk says that Qi2\/magentic accessories are a \u201cpart\u201d of why Samsung is considering the change.<\/p>\n

Ironically, this comes not long after Samsung called the vertical camera design a \u201ccore identity\u201d of Galaxy devices, implying it wouldn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n

The post also implies that camera specs could also be revised in the next generation, something we\u2019ve been hearing for years now.<\/p>\n

This all sounds great. We\u2019ve been saying that Samsung has stuck itself in a corner around Qi2 which, as a growing industry standard, will continue to make third-party accessories harder and harder to use with Galaxy phones over time \u2013 unlike what some online discussions may imply, Qi2 magnets aren\u2019t all about charging.<\/p>\n

But, sadly, there\u2019s a big \u201cif\u201d in this conversation.<\/p>\n

The potential holdup on Samsung introducing this new redesign in Galaxy S27 is apparently dependent on \u201crecent cost issues\u201d which could push the \u201ccomplete overhaul\u201d into a delay, \u201con hold\u201d as the post puts it. Samsung already put off a ton of upgrades <\/a>that were expected to debut in the Galaxy S26 series due to cost concerns and trying to match the iPhone\u2019s price point, and that didn\u2019t even work with prices still going up on certain variants. <\/p>\n

With the impacts of the RAM crisis continuing \u2013 and likely not getting better anytime soon \u2013 I\u2019m personally not exactly hopeful we see this redesign anytime soon.<\/p>\n
