He plans on spending more time with his family, and &#8220;focused, impactful projects within the art world, working globally as a family ensemble with and for artists, museums and cultural organizations, companies and governments, and private individuals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sirens calls it &#8220;a great honor&#8221; to lead the AKG Art Museum, saying in a press release on Wednesday, \u201cI have lived in fourteen cities in seven culturally and linguistically distinct countries. Among all of them, Buffalo stands out as the most welcoming community, a city that is radiant, resilient, and filled with enormous potential.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sir\u00e9n\u2019s tenure was marked by several major exhibitions, the launch of the museum&#8217;s Public Art Initiative (which birthed the city&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgrz.com\/article\/news\/local\/shark-girl-to-get-a-50000-facelift-this-fall\/71-b91c83fd-5a47-42b8-8a13-dbb514bb6ce8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">beloved Shark Girl statue<\/a>), and most notably, his time oversaw one of the museum&#8217;s largest expansions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the Buffalo AKG (at the time Albright-Knox) Art Museum broke ground on what would become the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgrz.com\/article\/entertainment\/akg-opening-approaching-buffalo-art-museum\/71-00d1b80a-0f61-4ec0-bc2f-823ea7e24228\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gundlach building<\/a>. The $230-million dollar capital campaign expanded the museum&#8217;s exhibition space, restored many of the historic facilities, and saw the installation of a new underground parking garage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dr. Sir\u00e9n\u2019s accomplishments are unique,\u201d said Alice F. Jacobs, President of the Board of Directors. \u201cHe built both a world-class museum campus and a platform\u2014one that connects the Buffalo AKG to its community in Western New York and to the global art world simultaneously.
