\u201cWhat we have got now originated from parties not being able to agree in the 1970s. The way we get out of this mess is … we have to try and get some consensus around it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hipkins <\/a>made the comments as part of a wider conversation on his party\u2019s potential policies and ideas in the lead up to the election in November. <\/p>\n

Hipkins said he was not keen on raising the age of retirement but there needed to be \u201clong-term consensus\u201d around what improvements to retirement could be.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason I don\u2019t think raising the age for everybody is the answer is because you do end up with people who are physically knackered by the time they get to 65. <\/p>\n
